Super Lagos City transforms the geography of Lagos into an 8-bit video-game map, a playful reimagination that turns traffic, landmarks, chaos and beauty into levels, checkpoints and hidden worlds. Every district — from Badagry to Ikeja to Lekki — appears as a pixelated zone with icons that reference real cultural anchors like Tafawa Balewa Square, Ikoyi Club and the National Theatre .

The idea behind this piece is simple but resonant: living in Lagos already feels like playing a game you can’t pause. Every day is a new level with its own obstacles, shortcuts, power-ups and near-misses. The city demands navigation, strategy, patience and a sense of humour, the same attributes you need to survive any classic game.

By recasting Lagos as a playable world, the artwork celebrates both the madness and the magic of the city: its unpredictability, its velocity and the strange joy found in getting through each day. It honours the people who keep pressing “start,” no matter how many times the game restarts.
